Hello Community,

My Grandmother once told me to make every action I did in service to my community. If I could do this then my path would be right in her eyes. She passed so I never really got a chance to understand what she meant when I was ready. Many attempts in the past only ended up in self sacrifice and frustration. I had almost given up on the idea that this was even possible.

 

I have had my dark days of the soul. Thankfully there was SO much help offered to me in times when I was in great need. Folks, groups, drag queens, Sisters, gatherings to heal and so much more! This was not in Wichita, and at the time I was in need and not in a giving space.

It was thanks to these folks that I held onto the idea of what Grandma had offered to my younger self. I now know what she meant to make every action in service, not everyone can do it since some are in need and not in giving. It is not someplace you just appear one day, it is a path walked and arrived in time. Each of the folks that helped me had a story of their path walked and the place they arrived. It is my place now to hold space as they did for me, now that I have arrived at this place and time. Those folks, as I do now, held space for me to create the idea of what could be. They showed a whole community what was possible by walking the path and holding the idea that we could too in our own way.

This is why it is so important for our community to come together, those that are on the path. To show those that are looking for the path, it is possible. Every vendor you see, every information service and food service is there with an intention to show you what is possible and support the path they are walking. By supporting local we support the idea that we, at any stage of life, can do something different or better if that is what we choose! I think this is what Grandma meant, at least in my opinion. Our actions are choices, she meant to walk the walk & talk the talk. To be truth to myself and others, then I can choose, or make action, in service to my community. This is different for everyone I think, and I hope this helps you in some way.
